Overview of Nyamata Hospital and Kishokai Project
Rationale
Building on the success that Rwanda has made by achieving the MDGs indicators (MDGs 4&5), it has fully committed to implement the next UNSDGs while building on the investments made in those previous goals.
Implementing the current global SDGs agenda requires a shift from a focus on reducing mortality to ensuring that women, newborns and children not only survive, but also thrive and realize their full potential. As the Government aligns with this new agenda, sustained, quality integrated effective interventions for health promotion, prevention and treatment, implemented at every level of the health care system will be necessary for
tangible success.Through the Rwanda Maternal Newborn Child Health (MNCH) strategic Plan 2018 2024, Rwanda has proposed that health care services should be people centered and sustainable. Therefore, the emphasis is to ensure that health care is delivered to all women with quality, equity and dignity.
In addition, it is imperative that health providers and stakeholders in Rwanda start realizing that women should be empowered to take responsibility of their health especially during the pregnancy period and beyond. This will reduce the burden to health systems hence creating more time for quality perinatal care services.
However, this can not be accomplished without addressing the social determinants of health for women and newborns; and ensuring a workforce and health services that are of the highest quality. Ensure the involvement of the private sector as well by using available digital tools (ICT implication).
